Chapter 801: December 15th: Roar, Dragon
◆
Half of its face was melted by Areadbhair.
The left half of its body was frozen by Yashirobird's bullet.
Even after taking damage that would have long since killed an ordinary monster, Tomahawk remained fully operational.
"GIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRI!!!"
Because half of its face had physically melted off, it should have been difficult for it to even produce a proper sound from its throat but yet, the Blade Dragon raises a loud, distorted roar, and instead of using the blade on its frozen, useless left arm, it vibrates its tail in an attempt to launch a flying slashing attack.
"OOA!!"
However, a massive shadow leaps onto the tail right as it attempts to swing in an arc.
Ur Idim catches the tail, and even as fissures run across its spiky outer shell, he braces himself while being pushed back, dampening the tail's momentum.
"Enough already! Let me have a turn too!!"
With its face burned, its left half frozen, and its tail stopped, Tomahawk finally exposes a massive opening, and Survival closes the distance to the absolute limit.
Instructing Saina to lower me to the ground, I look down from the air to see DeepSlo—equipped with three short wands—continuously rapid-firing magic at Survival. Are all of those buff spells?
"I don't care if it's your ribs or your guts, shatter! 'Weapon Drive'! Into 'Hands Dread Beat'!!"
Wielding one-handed iron whips whose blade portions function practically as clubs, Survival holds them in both hands—becoming a dual-club user rather than a dual-sword user—and slams his twin iron whips into Tomahawk's frozen left half, specifically its left knee.
His stance looks like he's beating a Japanese taiko drum, but through some mechanism, every time he lands a strike, an incredibly tremendous echoing sound reverberates from Tomahawk's knee. Individually, they are metallic sounds like a *Gan!* or a *Gyin!*, but with dozens of them overlapping, it rings out as one massive boom.
"Get crushed!!"
"GURURUOOOAAAAA!!"
Ur Idim pulling with all his physical might while gripping Tomahawk's tail, and Survival smashing Tomahawk's left knee with all his physical might. The moment those two actions overlap, Tomahawk loses its balance from its tail being forcibly pulled, and with the joint of the left leg supporting its collapsing body shattered, Tomahawk's massive frame... trips and falls.
"Blade wing sealing complete! I used Yashirobird-san's shot as a reference and froze the others too! No more projectiles will be flying at us!!"
Its head melted, half its body frozen, and finally, its entire body toppled over. The time we bought with everything we had was more than enough for Overwerke to seal all the blade wings. And what incredible consideration, casually applying the treatment to the other blade wings as well.
Having lost its projectiles, with half its body immobilized, and above all, toppled over, there is only one thing we must do against this bipedal dragon.
"Let's fold it up!"
"Turn it into a honeycomb!!"
"Beat it around!"
"Strike It!"
"Let's 6P!!" [*1]
There's one slight idiot mixed in, and everyone is shouting completely different things—there's zero coordination. Well, it can't be helped, I'll sum it up for us.........
"Beat it to deathhhhhh!!"
Don't miss this opening! Meticulously destroy it so not even a millimeter or a pixel remains! We'll turn it into scrap, melt it down, harden it, and make it into ingots!! I wonder how many Mani we'd get per 10kg!?
Overwerke and Survival, who had switched to slashing weapons, attempt to sever the tail, which is the only part retaining its sharpness; Yashirobird begins assembling some sort of massive gun emplacement on the spot (I had to look twice); and Ur Idim unleashes overwhelming violence to destroy the torso, fully aware that it is likely the most durable part. Amidst all this... I stand facing Tomahawk's head, glaring down the dragon's single remaining eye without running or hiding.
"Nice, I'll gladly accept an enemy who doesn't show weakness in a one-shot fight."
Though if this was a farm run, you'd be trash. When farming, I want you to expose your weak points and become fragile. However, even while exposing a form that wouldn't look out of place if called a corpse, Tomahawk slams the terrifying intimidation of a dragon at me through its gaze alone.
Quite the guy, looking as if to say it won't die for nothing... No, is it screaming that it truly won't die for nothing?
The freezing caused by the bullet Yashirobird fired originated from the left shoulder, meaning a certain percentage of its neck near the impact point is also frozen... but to put it the other way around, the remaining percentage of the neck and the head are unaffected by the freezing.
"GIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRIRI.........!!"
"Hah......... Hahahaha! Nice guts, Tomahawk! Bring it on! This is the best! Let's settle this!! Even if I lose in how loud my voice is, I'll win in how big my words are!!"
While Tomahawk's throat emits a low growl, it simultaneously begins to vibrate, producing a high-pitched, grinding noise. The surrounding atmosphere vanishes into Tomahawk's oral cavity, deep within. And the roaring, thunderous sound ramps up its voltage, right on the verge of being unleashed from the dragon's mouth.
Witnessing that up close, I don't run away, nor do I harden my defenses......... Preparing to meet it head-on, I draw in a massive, deep breath.
"Seiten Style...!"
The war cry of the Seiten Style scatters the clouds and shakes the heavens. Though I didn't see it directly, apparently that Wethermon had an ultimate, instant-death area-of-effect shockwave attack called Weather Forecast (Is that a pun?).
The 【Sky】 branch of the Seiten Style consists of techniques utilizing the breath... Then my breath will be scorching, and it will make you tremble!!
"...'Sougyou'!!"
Souzen, which shakes all directions centered around the user.
Soukyuu, which concentrates the breath into a single point to pierce.
Compared to them, Sougyou is inferior to Souzen in range, and inferior to Soukyuu in piercing power. But even so, the dawn's breath applies scorching heat hotter than either Souzen or Soukyuu. And then!
"You're not the only terrifying dragon here. I know a dragon more terrifying than you."
After all, he's got three heads; that's three times the terror.
What I pull out from my Inventoria is... literally, an accessory shaped like the jaw of a terrifying dragon, dyed crimson down to the marrow of the bone.
"Starting with you, this is my maiden battle."
An accessory crafted from Draculus Dinocerberus "Scar-red", which I defeated that day.
That is precisely this, "Rexesque: Cardinal Red"!!
The jaw of a terrifying dragon, the jaw that generates the scorching heat symbolizing the crimson tyrant! The one who equips this accessory housing that power is granted the ability to generate crimson flames.
Now, prepare yourself, Tomahawk! Multiplied onto a skill that applies heat damage... an accessory that adds the Fire attribute to breath-type skills and magic!!
"Get blown awaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!"
"GIRARARARARAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"
A scream seemingly tearing apart everything Tomahawk possesses. In opposition, my raised voice, exhaled breath converted into flames upon touching the crimson lower jaw, collides as an inherently destructive breath.
The deadlock lasts only a moment; considering the sheer difference in vocal cord size to begin with, it's an obvious truth that I'd be pushed back......... But Tomahawk, my attitude is much larger.
I don't even need to call out to her; it's only natural that I'll receive a buff. Just throwing a glance her way is more than enough......... Truly, truly, no matter how many times it happens, it pisses me off, but that woman perfectly understands exactly the support I want.
"Yeeees, Sunraku-kuuuun...... I totally understaaaaand...... 【Beyond the Order】!!"
The power applied to me is extremely simple. It enhances lung capacity, and amplifies vocal volume......... strictly speaking, it's just an enhancement magic spell that "applies a strengthening modifier to breaths that vibrate the throat"!
But just like Akitsu Akane's 【Dragon Breath】, and just like the 【Sky】 techniques of the Seiten Style. Sometimes, that is the greatest enhancement of all!!
Hitting my nape, piercing through my cervical vertebrae and enveloping my throat, the magical power grants further force to my exhaled breath. The flames shift into an even more vibrant crimson, and the increasingly dense breath tears apart Tomahawk's breath.
Tomahawk, let me teach you a secret about Humanity.
"Actually, lung capacity issssssssss!! Dependent on staminaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!"
The effect of a skill that mitigates stamina consumption grants my shout the time needed to fully tear through Tomahawk's. The flames of the terrifying dragon rip through the space-distorting dragon's breath, and the moment Tomahawk squints its eye at the intense light and heat approaching its face...
The flames finally reaching Tomahawk's face engulfed the dragon's visage in an explosion of dual-layered heat.
Author's Afterword
With half of its face melted off, and a third of its throat completely immobilized
vs
Having absurdly high stamina with reduced consumption, plus a triple enhancement from skills, accessories, and magic
So rather than Sunraku surpassing it, Tomahawk's current state is way too feeble; its breath is weakened by nearly eighty percent compared to its normal state.
Rexesque
Accessories crafted using particularly high-grade materials among the materials of wyverns, colored dragons, or color-polluted pseudo-dragon species fall into a series with the common naming convention "Dragon King's Raiment".
Because "Scar-red" is a Dinosaur-type (恐竜) monster, the pronunciation is the same, but the notation adds "Fearsome/Dino" (恐・) (If it's a wyvern, it gets "Flying" (飛・); if undead, it gets "Corpse" (骸・)).
If Siegwurm's materials were used, it would become "Rex".
"Rexesque" is spelled Rex - Esque (Dragon King-esque, basically, since it's a knockoff, it's a Dragon King).
Just one more setting reveal.
The "Hands Dread Beat" used by Survival is a skill that chains damage inwards the higher the opponent's VIT is.
Whether unarmed or with weapons, if you can chain up to 99 hits with a dedicated "striking" skill, the 100th hit will deliver a strike that almost completely ignores the opponent's VIT.
