Chapter 887: December 20th: Taking a Breath, and Conversing Within a Breath
Author's Preface
I've been hearing info that the price of ShangRe-Life is getting increasingly crazy, or rather it finally exceeded 10,000 yen, and nowadays I'm just like "Seriously?" [*1]
【Tsuchinoko】Anti-Personnel Combat Research BBS Part.512【Peerless】
32: Lang Dawn
Honestly, it's beyond my comprehension at this point.
33: Paper゛Person
Too many things are being crammed into a span of just a few seconds.
34: Reno
Garunose's movements are so perfectly the ideal form of a heavy warrior wielding a tower shield in PvP that every single action is educational.
35: Kanayasahara
It hasn't even been five minutes yet, but I feel as exhausted as if I just watched the first half of a soccer match.
36: Pui
Garu-san is way too cool, holding his own against a mass of unknown-gimmicks within heavy warrior territory.
37: Thick Mountain Cross
Have some sympathy for those of us being shown the absolute pinnacle of a light warrior that we can't use as a reference at all.
38: Vandrake
He's completely a bipedal fire-breathing lizard, isn't he.
39: Chitose
Even the Lizardmen race fights with a bit more humanity than that.
40: Gold Goal
That face is seriously too much, what is even the point of that?
It's seriously gross, please stop it, I'm begging you.
41: Paper゛Person
Seeing him use the same skills in completely different ways is incredibly spectacular.
42: Vegas
I bet that jaw-like thing around his mouth or that gross mask is the source of the flamethrower.
43: Shidanoha
The way he was blown back clearly looked like he took a full-swing punch, so I bet that tail has a STR enhancement modifier.
44: Daen Square
Garunose's positioning is way too reminiscent of Lone Wolf.
He's exactly like a shield-carrying Zold.
45: Virtuous Agony Boy
That lotus collage face... the eyeballs are normally moving around, but does he seriously have vision in all of them?
46: Pui
A man who got the platinum trophy playing through up to 3 using strictly Zold's equipment is just on a different level.
Even though the initial version of 3 was extremely disadvantageous for heavy shields, he purposely rolled back the version and cleared it.
47: Big Beans
I've tuned into Garunose's kumite streams before, and his tactics are seriously rock-solid. The fact that he took 4 rounds in a first-to-10 match against N.I.K.'s possession build that was thoroughly designed to counter him makes him a literal monster.
48: Vandrake
I seriously want to know Tsuchinoko-san's skill build.
People were saying he was almost entirely specialized in mobility and probably had less than ten attack skills, but from the looks of it, he has quite a lot of attack skills, right?
49: Secluded Paulownia
Based on the skill effects, that lariat and the knife-hand strike seem to be skills from the same lineage.
Even different skills like Hercules skills produce the same skill effects, so they probably belong to the same category.
50: Supreme Fist Sunlight
As a melee-specialized guy, I'm despairing after seeing Tsuchinoko-san not only use the skill I treated as my ultimate finishing move, but even showing off its derivative forms.
What the hell is that lariat?
51: Vegas
In the sense that he completely masters every single technique he can use, Tsuchinoko-san is pretty insane too.
He almost never does desperate, random skill spamming.
52: Shidanoha
I've been wondering for a while now, but why is Tsuchinoko-san restricting himself to bare hands? It doesn't seem like he's just taking it easy, but still.
53: Thick Mountain Cross
This isn't the place to have a Lone Wolf discussion.
54: Daen Square
Actually, ever since he started this kumite, Tsuchinoko-san has been holding back his hand quite a lot.
He's been pushing through with pure weapon performance whenever possible, and even when that Gothic Lolita chainsaw guy exposed that he doesn't have many skills, he still ended up brute-forcing it with weapon performance.
Well, adding his speed to that brute force makes it terrifying, though.
55: Paper゛Person
It's a single truth, really.
That you can win if you move super fast and land your attacks.
56: Supreme Fist Sunlight
The crazy part about Tsuchinoko-san is that he can adjust his anti-monster acceleration for anti-personnel use.
It's incredibly difficult to so cleanly tune acceleration and deceleration to a PvP scale.
57: Vandrake
Not being able to kite him is what makes it so tough.
Even if the long-range types try to establish their specialized distance, they get brought into an infight in just two steps, and conversely, infighters get kited by Tsuchinoko-san.
58: Gold Goal
In that sense, Garunose's counter is a work of pure craftsmanship.
He was countering and closing the distance Tsuchinoko-san created.
Well, he got countered back by the tail, but given how heavily armored he is, it was probably just chip damage.
59: Secluded Paulownia
I love how he sometimes incorporates boxing-like steps to turn sharply while moving in a straight line, it looks just like Sylvia's Meteos.
60: Vegas
Looks like? Isn't it a complete copy? Being able to copy the US #1 player is insane though.
61: Kanayasahara
What is that sword?
62: Virtuous Agony Boy
Thiiis is unfair, a first-timer trap using weapon performance.
63: Lang Dawn
Since it's a sword, is it finally his main weapon?
His main weapon in the Orchestra stream was a sword too, right?
64: Pui
ShanFro actually lets you put such gimmicks on weapons......
65: Shidanoha
Isn't Tsuchinoko-san playing a game I don't know about? It'd be more believable if you told me he converted his save data from another game.
66: Daen Square
I'm laughing because the Blacksmith BBS is in a hellish uproar right now.
It's been hyped up the entire time during Tsuchinoko's kumite, but the thread's consumption speed is accelerating to today's peak right now.
67: Thick Mountain Cross
They're crafting reproduction weapons and screaming about how this or that is wrong.

The manga version of Shangri-La Frontier Volume 15 is finally going on sale on October 17th.
Volume 15, guys, volume 15. The third multiple of 5. Doesn't the number 15 give off a strong character vibe? Since 30 and 45 feel like the numbers of capable individuals, the number 15 that leads up to them gives me a sense of "strong" potential. Like Shoutmon. [*3]
Setting that aside, the super massive ShanFro big big big event event in October isn't just the release of the manga volume.
Yes, as you all know, the ShanFro anime starts on October 1st, Sunday at 5 PM!
The Fall 2023 anime season is truly an era of warring states, but getting the Sunday 5 PM slot makes me feel like we've secured the geographical advantage! It feels like a victory flag, but everyone in the same season (though it's a bit presumptuous to call them peers) is so incredibly strong that I constantly feel a vague sense of anxiety. However, thanks to everyone involved in the anime and the voice actors who breathed life into the characters I created, I feel like Anime ShanFro is completely secure (Invincible across the Divine Land).[*4]
With that said, we are less than a week away from X-Day, so let's charge through this vague anxiety with a "Chesto Sekigahara!" and welcome October. Please support us! [*6]
Translator's Notes
- [1] ShangRe-Life / シャングReライフ :A portmanteau combining Shangri-La Frontier and Fairy Re:Life (a staple card from the Duel Masters TCG). It refers to a rare, real-world crossover print of the card featuring Shanfro artwork.

- [2] Names:
- Lang Dawn: (Read: Lang Dawn) Written in the Latin alphabet.
- Paper゛Person: (Read: Gamigin) A linguistic play where "Kami" (Paper) with a dakuten voicing mark (゛) becomes "Gami", and "jin" (Person) is read as "gin", forming Gamigin, a demon from the Ars Goetia.
- Thick Mountain Cross: (Read: Northern Cross) Uses "Nou-zan-juu-ji" as ateji (phonetic equivalent) for "Northern Cross".
- Virtuous Agony Boy: (Read: Zenmon Douji) A pun combining "Zenmondou" (Zen koan/dialogue) and "Douji" (Boy). The literal kanji mean Virtuous Agony Boy.
- Secluded Paulownia: (Read: Kiryu) A combination of "Kiri" (Paulownia) and "Yuu" (Secluded/Ghost) read as Kiryu.
- Supreme Fist Sunlight: (Read: Haken Shain) A pun on "Haken shain" (派遣社員), meaning "temporary worker." The kanji "Haken" (Supreme Fist) is paired with "Shain" (using the English word "shine" for Sunlight).
- [3] Shoutmon: A small but high-potential Digimon from Digimon Fusion / Xros Wars, hot-blooded, rock-star aesthetic.
- [4] : "Invincible across the Divine Land" (神州無敵 - Shinshū Muteki) is paired here with "All is secure" (Antai ja) to referencethe manga Efu no Shichinin, meaning a situation is completely bulletproof against outside threats because of an overwhelmingly powerful asset—in this case, the anime's top-tier production staff and voice cast.
- [5] Chesto Sekigahara / チェスト関ヶ原: Meaning to smash through an overwhelming or anxiety-inducing situation with reckless, hot-blooded force. It combines the famous Satsuma samurai battle cry ("Chesto!") with a reference to a legendary, near-suicidal head-on breakthrough charge at the historical Battle of Sekigahara (1600).
