Chapter 689: Echo Upon the Mirror's Surface, Roar From the Skyscrapers - Part 7
Author's Preface
I probably won't be updating for a little while.
◇
A stream talking while watching a mirror of the mysterious "Orch Verification" live stream.
Streamer: Mishel
『Ummm, and so, the second battle is against the Alexand Scorpion.』
"And so!?"
Menako : What do you mean "and so"
Cobalt : The hell do you mean "and so"!?
Mamas : Don't just whip out a completely new species with a face that says "as you all know"
Paperto : A palette swap of the Crystal Scorpions?
Amacha : Is that a Crystal Scorpion?
Rai-neji : Crystal Scorpion?
Vitamin X : Actually I'm way more interested in that Exordinary from earlier bro!!
Perfect Prima : Wasn't Fossil Miners the name of some clan
Buchi-Kamasu : Scorpions in ShanFro are way too strong
Daiginjo : A beam!?
Paperto: It shoots beams!?
Beat Natto: No wait he just reflected it didn't he
"Ehh......... What the hell is this?"
Buchi-Kamasu: Mishel being completely speechless is hilarious
Katsu-don: Nah I wouldn't know what to comment on this either
Juku no Eki no Nishi no Iriguchi: There's way too little commentary going on here!?
Bukuro Koji: How the hell is he dodging that......?
Amacha: Stop running on the air like it's completely natural
Vitamin X: It's not a bug or something right?
Mamas: Does he have sonar embedded in his brain
『This guy does that thing, you know that thing!』
Rai-neji: Ah, here comes the commentary
Perfect Prima: Who the hell understands what "that thing" means!
『Beam reflection! If you leave the territory you get swarmed! Emergency tail destruction needed! Basically just dodge and you're good to go!!』
Daiginjo: Nothing about that is good to go
Katsu-don: It ain't good at all
Tajiman: No good to go
Ichigo: But seriously though he's doing a no-armor run......
"No seriously, exactly that Ichigo-san. It's crazy right, acting like it's totally normal to not wear any armor."
Cobalt: He was wearing some earlier so this is totally him flexing
Coconut: But he's actually dodging and dealing damage though
Musukko: Nah lol
Nuka-zuke: Started beating it with a pickaxe w
Tanpopo: lol
Yuka-tan Hantou: lol
Vitamin X: lol
Buchi-Kamasu: The fact that it actually looks like an effective strike makes it even funnier
Bukuro Koji: No wait isn't that just a massive blind spot? I guess a pickaxe would actually have great matchup affinity against crystal
Mamas: I mean there were probably people who tried to test that right? They just died before they could prove it
Rai-neji: Wait isn't that scorpion way too agile for its size? The emergency braking and turning
Vitamin X: So he only fights within its territory
Juku no Eki no Nishi no Iriguchi: Couldn't you just beat it with long-range attacks from outside the zone
"No way, it has long-range artillery so that's impossible. And he said something about getting swarmed, so if you step into another territory it'd probably turn into a 2v1 beatdown...... Ahー, he killed it. Tsuchinoko-san is insane, somehow I feel like I've gotten stronger just watching this."
Rai-neji: A guy who got stripped naked by the Usurper Dragon is babbling about something
Musukko: Mishel, let's save that kind of talk for after you become a Sword Saint okay
Vitamin X: Mishel let me know the next time you enter a tournament, I'll farm you
Amacha: For real, there are still streamers who haven't made it to the New Continent?
"Ahー ahー I can't hear youー!!!"
◆
When all was said and done, the Alexand Scorpion fell into the "familiar opponent" category, so Orchestra's lyric-based guidance ended up being more of a shackle than anything else, and I took it down relatively swiftly. Well, I say swiftly, but considering my lack of raw firepower, it still took several tens of minutes.
The downside of the scorpion-based Movements is that while there are fewer tasks, it simply takes a lot of time...... In that regard, the Unique Monster-based Movements actually have far more tasks, but if you complete those tasks at maximum speed, you can drastically shorten the overall combat time.
"Now then, what's next......"
『【The Tale Spun by Sunraku】 Third Movement... "The Tombguard Rests"』
"Oh, it's Wethermon."
Since the last one transitioned from Sigmonia to Sigmonia, I genuinely thought this would be a special Sigmonia-exclusive pack, but a Unique Monster reproduction actually popped up here.
Come to think of it, there's no way to ever rematch the true Wethermon anymore...... I wonder if providing some sort of commentary would leave a better impression on 【Library】? Hey c'mere Meteor Iron Mirror. The fact that I can call it to my hand via thought input even while it's in auto-mode really shines with thoughtful design.
Speaking to the mirror floating nearby, I readied my weapon and locked my gaze on the manifested mechanical warrior.
"Ahー, this is Wethermon. The Unique Monster Wethermon the Tombguard, though this one is a reproduction."
Back then I had to dodge entirely on sheer guts and instinct, but now my skills are fully fleshed out, and since this Wethermon doesn't use the level-down barrier, while the threat level of his techniques remains incredibly high, I actually have a decent amount of leeway. Whoops, preparatory motion.
The most reliable and safe way to evade is using Quantum Gaze, but using that creates a slight disadvantage for my ability to talk, so this time I'll dodge it purely through stat-based violence and my Guts & Instinct Evasion: Custom.
「Tachikaze」
"Did 【Library】 possess the Tome of Truth again? Well anyway, this is his infamous hyper-speed instant-kill fast-draw attack. He only aims for the neck, and once you memorize that it takes exactly one second from his sinking preparatory stance to the actual draw, the rest is just a matter of getting used to it."
If I'm doing this, it might be a good idea to showcase all of Wethermon's techniques on stream. Partially because I've fought Orchestra's reproduction several times by now, but mostly because the battle against the true Wethermon the Tombguard is still burned so vividly into my memory that I can recall it with absolute clarity. To be perfectly blunt, without the level-down barrier and the subsequent stat reductions...... which means no equipment restrictions, this basically just feels like a slightly more dangerous PvP match.
"Umm, anyway, excluding the final ultimate secret art he unleashes at the very end, Wethermon's moveset consists of...... let's see, Tachikaze, Ooshike, Raishou, Nyudougumo...... 「Kasairyuu」 Ah, this Kasairyuu he just fired off, and the '「Haifubuki」' that triggers as a combo with it. That makes...... how many is that?"
A pillar of fire erupting from the ground, followed by a continuous, encircling net of ash raining down from the sky. The ash encirclement always rotates clockwise, so the most reliable method is to dodge the main torrent of ash falling from above, then immediately dive into the left side of the ash. This sequence doesn't rely on the katana, so the multiplied, color-swapped Wethermons will probably use it too.
"Since this is an endurance game anyway, I might as well run through the countermeasures for everything!"
The most dangerous part of the Wethermon fight was dealing with the Kirin that joins mid-way, but since I was almost entirely uninvolved in that part of the battle, Orchestra only reproduces Wethermon himself. And since I didn't get caught in the level-down barrier, that doesn't get reproduced either.
To state the conclusion, this reproduction Wethermon is playing on easy mode.
"This doesn't even qualify as a climax. I'll just casually beat you into a pulp, so bring it on, Pachi-emon."
Author's Afterword
Because Sunraku is operating under the assumption that only 【Library】 is watching, he's exclusively presenting information that he thinks 【Library】 probably wouldn't know.
As a result, he is only sowing further unnecessary chaos.
