Chapter 230: Uncontrollable Motion
Author's Preface
Ngaaaaaaaaaaaaah, ngoo, ooooooooooohhh!!!?!?
↑
The sound of me writhing in agony after finding the most idiotic contradiction ever.
Of
course you can't equip another accessory if your first slot is being
crushed by the Inventoria and you haven't even gone to the accessory
shop yet!
Because of that, I've revised it. Furthermore, I slipped in a new chapter before this one. For the time being, the order is:
Went to the accessory shop and unlocked the slots
Tested the Trigger in the Colosseum
Remembered to go to Bilac's weapon shop
Please read it in that order... Oooohhhhh...
I
have a lot I want to say about the performance of the Star Cloak of
Lapistella, but first and foremost, what's truly insane is 300. MP 300.
Even a monkey could become a Wizard with this.
I
assume it works like a bucket, where if it runs dry, it refills using
the player's MP, but being able to instantaneously rapid-fire magic
equivalent to 300 MP + the player's own MP is insane. They say magic
firepower depends on the maximum MP value, but it's not just attack
magic that benefits from rapid-fire.
Furthermore, the ability to stock magic... Well, I won't know the specifics until I try it, but... it reeks of potential for some seriously malicious exploits.
To
begin with, in a short, decisive battle, magic that lacks the
restriction of a recast time possesses exceptionally excellent
performance.
While
it does have the separate restriction of MP, when it comes to
unleashing massive firepower, a magic class's single-hit power is
superior. Well, taking into account normal attacks with weapons, the
final DPS of a physical class might still be higher, though.
"I need to test this, but the DPS for magic might end up being completely absurd..."
If
the set magic ignores the power degradation that normally comes with
incantationless casting... No, setting that aside, the biggest merit of
this accessory is that you can record a spell with just a single magic
activation.
For
example, the Disposable Magic Scrolls that Rei-shi spammed during the
final battle with Ctarrnid, and the spells recorded within them... The
fact that they are expensive means they are just that rare.
Without having to buy idiotically expensive spells every single time, I could just record it into the Star Cloak of Lapistella and use it as much as I want. Yeah, to put it mildly, it's completely out of its mind... I can think of four different ways to abuse it right off the top of my head.
But the real problem is this one.
"S-Sunraku-san... Are you really sure it's safe to use that desu wa...?"
"That's exactly what this test is supposed to find out, right? Just in case it's dangerous, stay back, Emul."
"Y-Yes sir."
The Rabituza Colosseum, where I once defeated packs of hunting dogs and Mummy Palms. Akitsu Akane will probably end up fighting here eventually as well, but for now, I'm using it to test the other accessory: "Levin Trigger: Hazard."
Judging by the accessory's description, it's basically a buff item with demerits. What concerns me is the "Overflow" state. The Sealed Amber has five classes, and assuming the "Hazard" class is the effect that comes with demerits... surely the motion sensitivity increase, the correction to all motions, and the DoT can't all be demerits.
"Well, you won't know until you try it, right...!"
Just
in case, I removed all my equipment except for the Levin Trigger:
Hazard. Steeling my resolve, I struck the amber embedded in the thumb of
the glove squarely against my chest, as if punching myself, fulfilling
the activation condition.
Zzzt.
A tingling numbness akin to static electricity burst forth from the
struck amber, coursing through my entire body. In the next instant, the
numbness running through me transformed into pitch-black lightning. It
crackled as it covered my entire body... No, that's wrong. It wasn't enchanting my exterior; it felt as though it was overflowing from the very inside of my avatar, Sunraku. As if I myself had become the source of the ancient lightning sealed within that amber.
"This is...!!"
Power
surged through my entire body. A forceful energy that made me want to
shout aloud and sprint at full speed began raging wildly within Sunraku.
Unable to hold myself back, I dashed forward with all my might and──────Wall.
"Hebuoo!!?"
"S-Sunraku-saaaaaaaaaaaaan!!?"
I died.
"...Hah!?"
I
woke up, respawning on a plain bed in the Colosseum's waiting room,
which was quite modest compared to the bed in the room given to me at
the Rabbit Palace.
Eh, what on earth just happened? Why am I dead!?
"Sunraku-san, are you alright desu wa!?"
"Sorry, Emul, but could you explain my cause of death?"
"Sunraku-san, you suddenly smashed into the wall at an incredible speed desu wa!"
Smashed... into the wall? Don't be ridiculous. The wall was twenty meters away from where I was standing, you know? And on top of that, dying just from bumping into a wall is... no, wait.
"Don't tell me, is that what it means...?"
"Sunraku-san...?"
"Alright, Emul. I'm gonna go die a bunch of times now."
"Fuaaa!?"
My death penalty hadn't even fully worn off yet, but before that, the number of things I needed to test had suddenly skyrocketed. I rushed back to the Colosseum and struck the trigger against my chest once more.
"Motion correction, increased sensitivity..."
For
example, let's say I perform the action of "raising my arm to touch my
chin with my hand." What happens if the action of raising my arm is sped
up to the absolute limit, and I put enough energy into the action of
touching my chin to equal a punch?
A
person, a living creature, cannot live their life constantly exerting
100% of their power. There are reasons like physical limits, but more
importantly, you can't possibly live your life constantly gripping
things with enough force to crush an apple or swinging your arms with
enough power to smash roof tiles.
In other words.
"Bugeh."
Attempting a backflip, my excessive energy and lack of physical restraint caused me to perform a double back somersault, sending me face-first into the ground, where I promptly died. My neck bent in a really bad direction just now.
"How should I say this... this is seriously bad."
"Sunraku-san, getting up with a straight face after physically snapping your neck is also pretty bad desu wa..."
"It's a hell of a lot better than getting grabbed by giant claws and crushed into paste."
Dying
while being crumpled up like a piece of origami is a wild experience.
It's shocking even if there's no pain, and it's even more shocking if
there is. Of course, your mind usually goes completely blank before you
even perceive whether it hurts or not.
That
being said, thanks to the excessive kinetic energy just now, I've
pretty much figured it out. During the "Overflow" state, all motions
become incredibly rough and are executed at maximum power. And just like
Shana-oh Possession, a correction is applied to the motion itself,
which is why attempting a backflip like I just did resulted in too much
momentum, causing a double rotation, and why merely trying to run
resulted in enough speed to lethally crash into a wall.
It's
like a robot with miscalibrated output adjustments—the type that swings
its leg up to the absolute limit just to take a step and ends up
falling over.
Furthermore, for a certain reason, even a scratch will result in death under these conditions.
"So this is where the Arcanum kicks in...!"
The
effect of the Arcanum "The Fool" halves the recast time required to
reuse skills, but in exchange, recovery actions become randomized, and
DoT damage doubles.
Meanwhile,
one of the effects included in the Levin Trigger: Hazard is "Takes 50%
of current HP as DoT damage every ten seconds." If that doubles, it
means every ten seconds, I take damage equal to 100% of my HP.
The
fact that I didn't die instantly probably means that, unlike the Poison
status, it won't entirely drain my health to zero. In other words,
despite taking 100% damage, I survive with 1 HP.
However,
combining the near-death state of having 1 HP, being half-naked due to
the Scar, and having incredibly difficult-to-control movements... If all
these factors intertwine, bumping into a wall kills me. Spraining my
ankle kills me. Failing a landing kills me. And, naturally, having an
attack graze me kills me.
Honestly, if I try to engage in CQC with this, won't I just die from the impact of my own punches...? Wait, can the 'Tenacity' granted by the Luck stat handle that? I think self-damage and recoil can be endured if your Luck is 50 or higher... but wait, does that trigger consecutively? Hmmm...
"What is this, a 1-hit KO character from a retro game...?"
On
top of that, my in-game speed has practically tripled. I really wish it
wouldn't try to kill me via the surrounding environment rather than the
quality of the game itself.
In
games before Full-Dive technology, you could apparently mess with the
console hardware to play at double speed, but doing that in VR creates a
lag
in consciousness between virtual reality and reality, so it's currently
restricted by law. Although recently, I've heard they're researching
technology to accelerate the "consciousness itself." However, in the
case of the Levin Trigger: Hazard, it's strictly the acceleration of the
body, so it basically feels like being asked to perform acrobatics in a
dragster. Dragsters can't turn, so what the hell am I supposed to do?
"In short, 1 becomes 10. The minimum unit on an enlarged ruler shifts from 1 millimeter to 1 centimeter. You divide the assumption, or rather, multiply the result...?"
"Here he goes again desu wa..."
Sorry, Emul, but I'm the type who actually gets fired up when encountering systematic unreasonableness. Unreasonableness usually means the developers haven't been able to control it either, which means you can secure benefits from bugs or unadjusted mechanics. Like an item that RNG discounts to 100 yen but can be sold for 150 yen. There are a lot of patterns where sloppily set discount values lead to that.
"Alright, today... no, I get the feeling that idiot is going to pull something, so I'm going to practice basic movements until tomorrow!"
"Before that!"
Nn?
"Sunraku-san, you're forgetting something desu wa!"
"Forgetting something?"
"Have you forgotten that you yourself said we were going to Bilac Onee-chan's place desu wa!?"
"Ah."
I completely forgot. First things first, I need to get these various chores out of the way.
